Taipei Veterans General Hospital, under the auspice and financial supports of DOH, has established a 24-hour hot-line poisoning consultation service offered to the medical professionals and general public since 1986. The carrying on services including: (1) providing information and recommendation to assist the diagnosis and treatment of acute poisonings; (2) collecting and anzlyzing information of poisoned cases, in working with the governmental agencies with surveillance capacity, to assist the control of outbreaks of poisonings; (3) creating a computerized  data bank of poisonings by integrating the information obtained from multiple displineries to facilitate further epidemiological study, investigation and vigilance of poisonings; (4) functioning as a consultation and referral center in poisons identification laboratory analysismedical management and outbreak investigations; (5) providing guideline for the use of antidotes; (6) organizing traing workshopsconferences and publishing periodic newsletters for continuing education to update the knowledge and clinical skills of medical professionals in poisoning handling; (7) actively involved in various international activities and international poison control network: e.g. attending the workshops organized by IPCS of WHO.

With the support of DOH, the Antidote Control Center was established in the year of 2000. It provides not only the storage of antidotes, but also the guidelines of utilization of antidote. We  were also engaged in the construction of main frame and infracture of National Emergent Medical Response system in the year 2004. It layed out the aims and action plans in integrating the national  poison control system. It has successfully solved the difficulties of lack of antidotes in certain extend and upgraded the quality of poisoning management in Taiwan.
